​Our client are recruiting an experienced manager to take overall responsibility for all aspects of woodland management and woodland creation within the company.

They are looking for an enthusiastic team player with good managerial skills, who will be committed to the sustainable growth of the company.

The team have been involved in woodland management and woodland creation in Devon and Cornwall for over thirty-five years, and we now manage woods and parklands across southern England. They have acted as forestry consultants for a wide range of landowners in both public, voluntary and private sectors. Our woodland management has always had a strong conservation and recreation focus, and we can also bring commercial forestry to the table when required.

Most of their current woodland clients consist of local estates with modest areas of woodland and forestry areas which are of high environmental and landscape value. These include Cornwall Council, Plymouth City Council and South West Water. They also undertake projects for the Woodland Trust and National Trust on a regular basis.

Our client has a multi-disciplinary team of ecologists, landscape architects, arboriculturists and heritage experts. They currently work from an office base at Mount Edgecumbe House, Torpoint, with staff also working remotely via MS Teams and Office 365.

The Senior Ecological Forester will be expected to be able to :

  • Make a strategic contribution to the L&H board of directors covering all aspects of woodland management, forestry and woodland creation.

  • Increases turnover and profitability within this sector

  • Line management of woodland contract managers and staff

  • Tender completion, bid writing and project pricing

  • Marketing and company promotion targeted within the sector

  • Networking to raise the profile of the company and identify work opportunities

  • Overseeing the preparation of management plans for existing woodlands.

  • Overseeing all aspects of woodland survey and timber mensuration

  • Overseeing the completion of FC and CS proformas, online felling licences etc

  • Overseeing the design for new planting, EWCO and CS applications

  • Overseeing Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and calculations

  • Overseeing all aspects of Carbon assessments and sequestration sales

  • Other Natural Capital evaluations and assessments as required

  • Woodland recreation planning and commercialisation

  • Junior staff training and development

  • Experience of working in partnership with statutory agencies and local authorities

  • Experience of working within protected landscapes and sites supporting protected species

This is a senior position with scope for further progression within the company. Salary will be commensurate with experience and will include performance bonuses and equity options. Candidates should be existing members of a professional body (CIEEM, ICF etc) or be working towards membership.
